Use Your Dental Benefits Before the Year Ends
Every December we see patients discover, too late, that they left dental benefits unused. Most dental plans reset their annual maximum on January 1, and whatever you did not use does not roll over. Here is how to check what you have left and put it to work before year end.
Why December matters
Most PPO dental plans carry an annual maximum, the amount your plan pays toward your care each year. On most plans that maximum resets January 1 and any unused balance is gone. If you have already met this year's deductible, treatment completed before December 31 usually costs you less out of pocket than the same treatment in January.
Three things to check on your plan
How much of your annual maximum remains, whether you have met this year's deductible, and whether you still have covered cleanings left (most plans cover two per year). If you are not sure, call us at (323) 319-5676: we verify your coverage at no cost and tell you exactly what you have available, in English or Spanish.
What to schedule before year end
Your pending cleaning and exam first: they are usually covered and catch small problems before they grow. Then any treatment you already have diagnosed, like fillings or crowns, while your annual maximum lasts. December schedules fill fast everywhere, so October and November are the ideal months to lock in your appointment.
