Now welcoming new patients — Huntington Park, CA (323) 319-5676

Dental emergencies don't wait for a convenient time. Whether it's a sudden toothache, a broken tooth, swelling, or a knocked-out tooth, getting prompt professional care makes a real difference. Here's how to recognize a dental emergency, what to do before you arrive, and how we handle urgent cases.

Signs you have a dental emergency

Call us same-day if you have: severe tooth pain not responding to over-the-counter pain relievers; swelling in the face, jaw, or neck; a tooth that has been knocked out or broken; bleeding that won't stop; a lost crown or filling causing pain; or a persistent bad taste (which can signal infection). If swelling extends to your neck or you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to a hospital emergency room immediately — these can indicate a spreading infection that is medically serious.

What to do before you arrive

For a knocked-out tooth: handle it by the crown, rinse gently, try to reinsert it, or store it in milk. Call immediately — reimplantation is most successful within 30–60 minutes. For severe pain: take ibuprofen or acetaminophen as directed. Do not place aspirin directly on the tooth. For swelling: apply a cold compress externally, not heat. For a broken tooth: rinse with warm water, save fragments, and call us.

How we handle emergency visits

When you call with an emergency, we do our best to see you the same day. We triage urgency by phone, set aside time for you, and have everything ready when you arrive. After a brief exam and X-ray, Dr. Adelpour explains what's happening, your options, and what treatment can be completed that day.

Does Denti-Cal cover dental emergencies?

Yes. Denti-Cal covers emergency dental visits and treatments that are medically necessary — including extractions, drainage of infections, and urgent pain management. We accept Denti-Cal and most PPO plans.

Frequently asked questions

Do you see emergency patients the same day?
Yes. We make every effort to see emergency patients the same day they call. Call (323) 319-5676 as early as possible.
What if my tooth was knocked out?
This is a true dental emergency. Pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently. Try to reinsert it. If you can't, store in milk. Call us immediately — the sooner we see you, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
Is tooth pain always a dental emergency?
Mild sensitivity that comes and goes is usually not an emergency. Severe, persistent, or spontaneous pain — especially with swelling or fever — warrants same-day attention.
Do you offer emergency care on weekends?
We are open Sundays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for emergency and urgent care. We are closed Saturdays. Call (323) 319-5676.
